Faffing Time

Firstly, let Wikipedia enlighten you :D

Faff:

Etymology
Dialect, 'blow in gusts'.

To waste time on an unproductive activity.

Yesterday, when I wasn't winning iLevel 245 PvP belts in the new VoA 10 man or completing the Weekly Raid Quest, was spent faffing. It wasn't true faffing per se, because ultimately it was useful. I've been meaning to sort out my vanity guild bank for some time, mindful as I am of there being a new expansion this year and as a result the need to store a load of new crafting mats. I like to do things well ahead of time, especially with materials for current items being pretty easy to come by and selling well. This meant the following:
  • Purchasing a new tab on the Vanity Guild Bank, allowing far easier sorting and room for expansion.
  • Upgrading all my alts bags to 20 slots using the vast amount of enchanting dust I seem to have accumulated with the equally huge amounts of Frostweave spread over the Alt Family.
  • Selling a shedload of items that frankly shouldn't be in my bags in the first place (I mean how much Preserved Holly do I really need?)
  • Consolidating all that kind of stuff in one place. The VGB now has a Seasonal section :D
  • Spending an hour last night looking at the AH and working out what is a decent seller at the moment. Ironically all green items in the 10-55 range are going for ridiculous sums right now, including crafting mats. Living Essence never sold for 40g back in the day, that was the cheapest price I could find last night. Funny old world, Azeroth.
As I am having a weekend away from the game I decided I'd stick a bunch of items up for auction today and see how they fare, considering how many Vanilla mats I have stored away. We'll have to see if this burst of faffing is profitable come Sunday evening...

EDIT: I read that Saurfang is fixed. Hurrah!

All Change! (Redux)

The short answer concerning my absence involves remodelling the computer area at home, some long-overdue RL admin and a nasty head injury (I had my scalp glued back together, which was an interesting experience) Now all that is done, we can return to the business at hand.

There will be some changes in the next few weeks, and as they happen, in the background, is a long-term in-game project that I've been working towards for some time. Although I have no problems with using Dailies as a means to make money, it's not nearly as much fun (in my eyes anyway) as making cash with my Professions. So, after some faffing and re-organisation I now have a very satisfying way of producing cash and using my large family of Alts at the same time. Expect a post on this as soon as I've reinstalled my graphics programme on this PC, which is now running Windows 7 (another part of the absence involved upgrading my computer's OS)

The biggest news however concerns a return to my Main Character of Old.

P has been Marks specced forever, and I doubt I will ever change, however bad the dps may become or however unfashionable the style is to play, because when all is said and done I'm a Marks Hunter at heart. So, P will return as my Avatar of Choice (see installation of graphics package above) and there will be some changes as a result.

So, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to see if my creaky old disks will load into my shiny new OS...

All Change!

New Layout, new Logo. Plus there will be some other changes as time goes on.

I wanted something that more accurately mirrored what I'm about, and how I play the game, and frankly most of the time it's with a [Uber Cover of Cynicism] on... so here we go. New look that hopefully looks better on a range of platforms as well. Boo to you if you're using IE anyway, get Firefox :p

Side bars and stuffs will follow, plus new pictures.

Enjoy!

Behind the Curve

The last few days have been, if I'm fair, all about the Guild. There's been a few things that needed sorting, and now they're done, I can hopefully start digesting the TONS of information that fell out of Blizzcon. I should also check my mail for my Marine Murloc Pet...

What I have done as a first exercise is some much-needed account sorting. I've had two accounts since the Recruit a Friend exercise allowed me to level my Shaman at speed (and grab the Zevra mount), and I've now transferred my Druid to the second account. More importantly both are now linked via Battle.Net, a process which is likely to become mandatory at some point in the future. It means only one login password and less than thirty minutes to transfer the Druid between the two accounts (though that may just have been lucky) This now frees me up some space to plan for a Worgen on my main account, and an 80 on both accounts to provide heirlooms for levelling. The Druid immediately converted her useless Emblems of Valor to shoulders and chest for the Shammy, and the next real task for me will be to level her to 80 and to get her Blacksmithing maxxed.

I've also set up a new alt on the secondary account who has access to my main bank alt's bank and Guild Bank, which will hopefully allow me to transfer anything between both accounts with speed, thus circumnavigating the 1 hour mail delay. In the end it is becoming increasingly easy to customise your gaming experience, and it seems sensible for me to take advantage of all this ease.

I ran a Naxx 10 with the Lock last night (and was second on dps on Patchwerk, which I'm very happy about, 3.5k dps is no longer a pipedream) and I'm 3 emblems short of the tier chest. The Hunter picked up the tier hat and also snagged the rather lovely Chestguard of the Ravenous Fiend (moar penetration!!!) from the Heroic 5 man Crusader Event, which is as good as it gets outside 25 man Ulduar...

Right, let's go sort some other things during Maintenance...

In Response

...to what was more than one person saying 'can you make it so anyone can respond to your posts?' I have done just that. Comments are now available to ANYONE, you simply need an e-mail address and a name.

Themed

With grateful thanks to L, who I will probably never find a way to repay properly, there's now a little bit of Druidic Theme to the webpage at last.

Now, if I could only wake up a bit and feel less crap, there would be updates as well.

Blimey Charlie

So, I thought I'd spend a few minutes this morning looking around for stuff to help me customise this site.

Nearly two hours later it occurs to me that I'd probably have been better off getting a Blogspot account than taking the 'host my own blog, customise it myself' route.

My head hurts :(

<--- Doofus

Not only had I forgotten I'd set up an RSS feed of this site (three and a bit years ago), I'd forgotten where I'd advertised it and linked it. So rather inadvertantly I've been spamming a certain section of a certain community to death over the last few days.

Apologies guys, and if you provide me with addresses the Chocolate will be in the Mail :D

Hello??!!?

Of couse, right now, there's only one other person reading this.

./waves

I need to spread the word a bit, but I also need to give you a place to contact me should you ever decide you want to. Stranger things have happened, after all.

godmother_at_laughing-geek.com

is the address for the Blog.

Let's see how much spam that generates to start with. Use that for everything and anything, and the day that gets a 'Hi! I'm reading you' mail I reckon I'll send the person concerned a bar of chocolate. I'm generous like that.

Look, Smell and Taste

So, in order to get this entire experience up and running I've pretty much just dived in. Please bear with me as I spend the next week or so changing the layout, adding pictures and a logo that I'm happy with, and generally moving the furniture around.

If all else fails it should flex some of those long-underused design muscles.
